Only in Los Alamos, part 2

Puttering around on errands today, I saw a bumper sticker that read, “186,000 miles per second. It’s not just a good idea, it’s the LAW.” On the right side was a little picture of Einstein.

  1. My favorites so far:

“What if the Hokey Pokey really is what its all about?”

    “Question authority: Ask me anything.”

and the only-in-the-south version of Jer’s only in LA…

    “I brake for boiled peanuts.”

  2. Another only in LA – our backyard neighbors in Los Alamos had the bumper sticker: “Starve a Sheik, go Nuclear”

Aside from bumper stickers, I also get a kick out of NC signs. There is no need to expend energy writing the plural…right now many strawberry farms are open for harvest and one sees hand drawn signs all over that say, “Strawberry —>”, not Strawberries, but the singular. Also seen the same for “P-nut.” What, can you buy only one single peanut? Maybe other languages are just as flexible, but gotta hand it to English that despite it all, I still know what they are saying.

And my all time fav is the NCDOT sign at each state border entry: “State Law: Burn headlights when using wipers.” In California that would be: State Law, Use only one hand to hold no-fat, double Latte while driving.

  3. It is now Law in California to “burn headlights when using wipers” too.

Problem is, I can turn on neither wipers nor headlamps with my Starbucks in one hand and cell phone in the other.

There should be a law that your car does all that turn-onnin’ stuff for you!

  4. John, you are being way too modest. I’m sure that you CAN turn on your vehicle’s wipers and headlights while holding a latte and a cell phone. In fact, I expect to see the video on Youtube by the end of the weekend.
