Hey, Cyberspace Open Guys! Um… never mind.

On the Web site for the Cyberspace Open, it says “Judging is expected to take 3-4 weeks.” Now, I understand that’s not the same as saying “Judging will take at most four weeks,” but round two is this weekend and still no word on our scores from round one. It has now been over four weeks.

Note: Ooops! Looks like I missed one of the bullet points on the contest Web site, and the results are due by tomorrow at the latest. The rest of this episode was a bit of a rant (tempered with my belief that this is a cool contest), and at least part of what I said was unjustified.

Sorry, Cyberspace Open Guys!

  1. I’m glad I found your site. It helps me to know that I am not the only one suffering! Oh, and it kills me that I didn’t notice that 17-19th note myself. Thanks. Now maybe I won’t be obsessively checking the CS Open page tonight. Good luck!

  2. I also missed that little detail (take note, Cyperspace Open Folks) and have been eagerly awaiting results since I may have to arrange my weekend around the contest. This is my first time entering and I’m really looking forward to getting some feedback on my writing. Thanks for getting us all more details.

    • I think they could have avoided some of the confusion by putting the expected date in the “results will be here” box, rather than just the 3-4 weeks thing.

Good luck, Matt and Ophelia! Drop back by and let us know how you did!

  3. WInners are up! And I am not one of them. I got the opposite reaction this year. ” I think the scene could use some more practical exposition off the bat, with character introductions capitalized and general explanation of the scenario.” I purposefully didn’t do that this tine since that’s where I lost points in the last go around. Oh, well, c’est la vie. Now I don’t have to worry about what to do with the kid while I write this weekend!

    • I didn’t make it either, with a score of 84 (got an 86 last time). I guess I’m not all that disappointed; sadly those scenes are the only thing I’ve written in the last year or so.

I’ll take it as a sign I have potential, but a long way to go.

Let us know how you did, Jerry.

  4. Alas, I am on the cutting room floor, as well. It was my first go round so I am glad that I proved I could actually do it. I got a 91 to boot but didn’t make the cut. Maybe it will jump-start my writing again. Apparently I need that hard deadline. Hope you all fared better! Good luck with the writing, all!

  5. Hey Jerry. Found your blog the other day while eagerly awaiting the CS Open results. This was my first entry and I also failed to make the cut, 85/100. But I did get the scene done in time, and there were a few positive comments to boot – “well-written scene”, very “Movie-like”, “action reads well on the page”. Anyway, planning on getting a writing/professional blog off the ground very soon so I thought I’d plant the seeds of potential residual creative blog links. I run the San Francisco Screenwriters group on Meetup.
