You know, modern phones know with great precision exactly where they are. (Which means they know where you are.) So why can’t they just make it so phones change ring mode by location? In a theater? No ring. In a restaurant? Quiet ring or no ring, the restaurant’s decision.
That would be cool.
There is a technology that exists, illegal in the US, but legal in Mexico, that blocks wireless-phone signals. It can be used to prevent a wireless telephone from operating within a certain distance of the device’s transmitter.
This device has become especially popular with Mexican parish priests who don’t want phones interrupting Mass. While the device isn’t legal this side of the border, rumor has it that some restaurant and theater owners have brought it over.
